Calls and Visits is an entirely voluntary charity founded in 2020 to help isolated people in Fleet, Hampshire. Our mission is simple: less loneliness.
Calls and Visits is part of the Good Neighbours Network, which means that we follow their quality standards. GNN has been operating in Hampshire for over 40 years and is funded by the ICB (Integrated Care Board - formally CCG).
Who does Calls and Visits help?
We help people who are isolated due to mobility issues or frailty, and who aren't able to leave home to socialise. Our volunteers visit and chat, play a board game or make a cup of tea. Sometimes befriending takes place on the phone instead. We don't help with jobs or take people out because we aren't set up for those services. Calls or visits are usually once a week and can last up to an hour.
Please note, we aren't able to take people out, help with household jobs or help those who are currently under a mental health crisis team. We aren't set up to support in this way, but visit our links page to see where help is available. Our criteria for referral can be found below.

We are running an entirely voluntary service that is restricted to conversation and we attract a range of volunteers who differ in age, life-training and experience. We give basic safeguarding training. This does not equip our befrienders to counsel or give advice. We can only signpost service users if their needs go beyond a friendly chat.
As an organisation, we must both safeguard the mental health of our volunteers and use their resources to maximum benefit in the community. That is the reasoning behind the following criteria for referral. Please feel free to email the office if you would like to suggest changes - we are open to learning.
Please do not refer people who:
- Are under 18.
- Are not isolated.
- Have a history of mental illness
- Want a service beyond a friendly chat, such as cleaning or caring
- Are able to take a local walk without mobility assistance - the exception being anyone 90 years+. We will visit any nonagenarian who does not need mental health assistance
- Do not really want to be befriended, even if it would be good for them
Please DO refer people who meet these criteria:
- Isolated
- Any age over 18
And
- Have significant mobility issues or
- Are very frail or
- Caring full-time and therefore unable to get out.
There is no charge for our service.
We will visit people in Fleet and the surrounding area which may include Farnborough, Aldershot, Yateley etc, provided we can find a volunteer willing to drive beyond Fleet.
We will cover the same area with a telephone service if preferred.
